The Bonnevilles have a new single released this morning over on Bandcamp. Perfect timing for Bandcamp Friday.

Here is a little blurb about it:

We’ve been playing this song out from the very beginning of The Bonnevilles. When you start a band you usually have to pad your set out with a few covers which end up being jettisoned in favor of originals as you write them but we love playing this old blues classic so much that 4 studio albums and countless gigs later we still play this at every show.

Over this period of lockdowns we decided to finally record it, we hope we’ve done it justice.

A few years back we had the opportunity to play Deep Blues in Clarksdale Mississippi, a dream come true. We landed in Memphis and drove straight to Holly Springs, the home of RL Burnside and arrived at Junior Kimbrough's Juke Joint around midnight where all the supporters of the festival got to hang and hear a lot of the artists that were playing the festival. As we walked in we heard someone shout “the Bonnevilles are here”, chills. The great Rubin Glazer was on stage finishing out a set, someone came over to us and asked did we fancy playing some songs? There was no way we weren’t going to play in this legendary venue, we couldn’t believe we were actually here. We went on and hit a few of our own tracks then we decided to play Poor Boy, one of RLs standards, here in his hometown of Holly Springs. It felt a bit risky. We could bomb ….hard... if we screw this up. After all these people have heard the masters doing it in person and now here are two Irish dudes about to cover it. We didn’t bomb. Oh, and the sleeve photo was taken outside the venue after our set by the great Peter Lee. The look on our faces was a mixture of jetlag and bliss.

We hope you dig our version of this classic, we tried to give it a little bit of Lurgan style via Chess Records circa 1960.

I could end my post right there but I’ll try to elaborate. Yesterday he suggested when asked about the future prospects of artists he said that we should re-train.

“I can’t pretend that everyone can do exactly the same job that they were doing at the beginning of this crisis”

This obviously incensed the community of artists that contribute 10.8 billion per year to the UK economy and by simply suggesting we need to retain so flippantly suggests we have little or no value, he certainly doesn’t appear to think so.

As an artist there is no doubt that a lot of people think we are nothing but irresponsible wastrels who need to get a proper job anyway and our professions are just an indulgence by adult children who have never grown up but to answer that I would say we only pretend to have not grown up, we act carefree and feckless in order to do what? Why to entertain you of course.

The reality of being an artist is one of the freelancer. In the modern world of course this is more normal that not but for the artist it's always been so. There are no secure jobs, no pensions, no stock options, no unions (worth a damn). Every day is a hustle, every minute is spent thinking about how to translate the breath of the Gods into poetry, paint or a almighty fucking righteous riff. We never quit working.

Do you know any artists? When you talk to them sometimes you think ‘are they even listening to me?’ you notice that his or her milky eyed out of focus look and the monosyllabic responses and it tips you off that they’re not in the room. A melody has occurred, a thought was gifted from the universe and now it must be turned into art, but that's fine you think, you’re used to it.

This is the deal. We do that to express ourselves and by proxy connect to something for you that gives you hope, that makes you cry, that makes you feel alive god damn it and in return we ask for an opportunity to perform for you, to display our art for you, to speak to your soul and also in return for connecting you to your ancestors we ask for a living not a big one, just enough.

One of the greatest honours and privileges of my life was being able to livestream gigs from my home studio during lockdown. I felt the relief of people who were struggling to keep it together, many told me so. I won’t pretend they were the greatest gigs i've ever done but I would say they were the most important. Anxious people from all over the world watched me and Chris (separately) play our livestreams and they thanked us for allowing them to rock out on a Saturday night in these strange circumstances, they needed it, it felt almost normal. The first gig I did people who I didn’t even know saw me smile and sing and at that moment knew things were going to be ok and then they breathed out. I’m still panicking though but I don’t say anything, I use my lifetime of training to make you feel good for a little while during the biggest mindfuck of a crisis we’ve seen since World War 2 and that is according to the Chancellor…..worthless.

Then there's the practical. I’m a gigging musician, that means I just perform songs, right? Wrong. Before I get to perform a song I have to be proficient at

Graphic design

Social media marketing

Booking

Digital audio

Concept management

Van driver

Roadie

Electrical engineer

Luthiery

Tour management

Accountancy

Budget management and much much more.

Then after becoming good enough at all of those I have to write songs, of course a Tory like Rishi Sunak couldn’t possibly understand just what you have to do to your brain to make it write a song, literally make something from nothing, a psychedelic expression of human creation is beyond your average Tory.

Some people might think what he said isn’t actually that bad, maybe you think the pandemic wasn’t his fault, which is obviously true. The problem for us is that of course it came from a fucking Tory, we know they don’t value us because we know they don’t value anything that doesn’t put money in their pockets so from one throwaway comment its easy to extrapolate exactly what these goblins actually think of us and ultimately they have no intention of helping us or saving the arts economy.

Anyway, I could go on forever. I’ll finish by saying this. We know our value, we know the world imagined by artists is a world of beauty, a world imagined by pond life accountants like Sunak is paved and sterile. Our world sounds like the poems of Joyce spoken over Liam O’Flynns pipes, his is the efficient snap of a ring binder. You’re wrong Sunak and as another Westminister ghoul Malcolm Tucker once said “Now offity fuck”.
The Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/63160502020-05-14T11:29:24+01:002022-01-28T20:23:36+00:00This Saturday 16th - Folk Art Drum Through with Multi-cam
Due to Facebook not allowing us to play our own songs on live stream we have had to take this session over to YouTube.
Welcome to the Andy That’s In the Bonnevilles 4.

If you’re watching this sorry about the lens looking like it has a vaseline smear on it, I‘ll make sure I give it a clean next time. If you’re listening, jog on,... also I have a big pluke on the end of my nose, fair warning.

I’m going to chat a little and give you my thoughts on Brexit as its just happened a few days ago, how I feel about the paucity of leadership within Unionism and why that matters to us all on this island, north and south.

Music recommends this podcast come from Federation X, Kate Tempest, Cypress Hill and Liam O’Flynn

Even if we pay, the eyeballs we get are getting to be fewer and fewer as time goes on.

Look at this. We put up an FB event page for a gig and the engagement its literally pointless. 8000 people choose to follow our posts.

Link to an outside source - post is buried.

Swear (we're a dirty rock band, we swear, quelle surprise) - post is buried

Get political - post is buried

I declare facebook to be a dead zone. One of those moonscapes you see after a dredge trawler has scraped all the life offa the seabed. Its the only game in town and thats the problem. Its created a monoculture and now its skimming everyone for all their worth.

I want to let rip with a barrage of F bombs and fruity colourfulls about the human android hybrid called Zuck but his matrixy scanballs will knock it into the basement with all the others.

We're playing in Portrush tonight, Dundalk next week and The Errigle in Belfast for NYE. at this rate I'll be pasting posters onto lamp posts again. Going backwards into the future.

So here I am with some daylight between the tour and the rest of my life. I'm still knackered as i'm typing, I have that post tour head frazzle thing and am about to make another coffee. My 3rd, and we're back in the loving arms of our families, we are lucky beyond compare.

When we get off these tours its usually the same emotions that surface but this ones different. I've thought about it for 24 hours to try figure out why. Its been our most successful tour yet across the board thats true but its been the most emotional, the good ones not the shitty ones.

Its hard to tour mid week anywhere in the world but you guys came out for us. We've been touring since we started, some of our very first gigs were in Belgium and we've always thrown our net very wide as a tactic to try get our music heard by as many people as is possible. This is the deal, its easy....

1.. Go to peoples towns
2.. Be fucking awesome
3.. Repeat ...a lot.

Thats it, whats the point in making things more complicated, i'd only get confused. This tour feels like we reached new territory, it feels more complete yet the futures opened up because of it. It feels good.

We got to play with our heroes and brothers the mighty Mudlow. We've been friends with these lads since before we were called The Bonnevilles, they are one of the best bands England has produced in the modern era in my opinion, criminally under-rated and we could only dream that we would ever get to tour with them but the real joy was seeing you guys take to them like we knew you would and boy did you, you fucking LOVED them, I knew you would, and they felt it and that makes me the happiest man in Ireland right now. Good things happening to good people is the joy of joys.

I can't talk about the tour without talking about merch girl Audrey Extraordinary or Audrey Fraser as her mother calls her. We learned years ago we need a merch person on every tour and Audrey is always first with her hand up, she brings her entire character and wit, which is formidable, to everything she does. I've had the pleasure of calling Audrey a friend for 25 years and shes got more character than most 10 other people. Shes also from Glasgow and that in my opine is always a good thing.

We started in Edinburgh and 10 days later ended in Belfast with an epic over night drive from Brighton, straight off stage into the van to make the ferry so we didn't miss our 2pm load in at the Limelight in Belfast. Going on stage at 8.45pm I had been awake for 46hours & 15mins with two 30 minute naps to tide me over. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be.

Thanks to all the venues, the bar staff, the cleaners, security guys, the bookers, everyone who had anything to do with our gigs. We are humbly and forever grateful we need you to do your thing so we can do ours.

Most of all thanks to you guys that came out and played with us. We'll always do everything we can to entertain you but you make it easy for us to want to, you are the reason. Thank you, we love you and we'll catch you on the next one.

The Mandela is the best room in Belfast and a grand old girl and to everyones dismay they're knocking it down, we don't know why.

The fact we got to headline her before she goes is such an honour. When you release an album its an emotional thing, when you write music its emotional, when you record it emotional so getting to do this is beyond our dreams.

Then.... then... all you sexy gorgeous bastards come out and give us your all, to say we have been humbled is a massive understatement.

We've been touring a lot, and we have a lot more to do, but its no secret that Belfast is our favourite place in the world to play and last night was all the evidence anyone needs to understand why.

Check out Dale Buchanans great video of last night and you'll know why.

Thanks to The Mandela staff, sound, lights for being the best in town. Thanks to Shelley McMullan and Janie McGibbon for all the positivity, love, support and flowers. Conor Keys, Colin Geddis and Amy Montgomery absolutely fucking nailed it. Alive naturalsound and Punk Rock Blues

We called this the Funnest Album Launch In History and it was exactly that.

Some words about Dirty Photographs

Is this our sexiest album so far? We think so for sure.

When we started this band one of our guiding notions was to get people dancing. Here in Northern Ireland it seemed to us at gigs there was a distinct lack of boogieing. I remember going to see the Von Bondies, before the Bonnevilles was a thing, in Belfast and they tore the place up but the entire room was pinned to the walls tapping feet but

not shaking booty. Jason, told the room off, and he was right to do so then played even harder in reaction, that impressed the shit out of me. Northern Ireland was still traumatised from its recent history, people were still trying to figure out how to be normal, I remember it very clearly and we didn’t know how to dance to a great band.

Sometimes being a band thats rooted in the blues it’s too easy to get weighed down by its sheer mass and heavy content.

Over the years we’ve written about death and love, zombies and strippers. Not Zombie strippers though, not yet anyway. This record we’ve gone straight for passion, sex and love along with a little political righteous indignation. For us love and politics are not mutually exclusive.

We give you Dirty Photographs, the album, you can provide your own filth.
The Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/51158432018-03-07T17:17:07+00:002018-10-04T21:31:58+01:00Glide Magazine Premiere a track from out new album The Rebels Shrug.
check it out here.

Hi everyone, We just wanted to share an end of year message with you. Our 2017 was easily our best year so far. We can’t begin to name all of the people that have affected us in a positive way beyond saying the obvious, we know you and you know we know you, we love you and want to do more next year.

If The Bonnevilles are about anything we’re about truth and emotion even if that is a hard thing to hear and a hard thing to do. It’s how we live and conduct ourselves, its in our lyrics and our music. We hope to deal with the spiritual without getting religious-ey, there’s nothing wrong with criteek so long as its purposeful and not cruel for cruelties sake, but know that we love what we do and mean no harm. We want to exchange ideas and want to hug it out afterwards and we want to be free and we want to get loaded…. Hang on that’s been done already hasn’t it…...fuck it’s been a long year.

Anyhoo, we want to thank Blues For The Red Sun Records for reissuing our second album on vinyl , faithfully and as it was intended and we need to say thank you to the wonderful Punk Rock Blues for having faith in us, we really dig it. Finally the almighty Alive Naturalsound Records for releasing our new album early 2018, we got some different things going and are excited to see how it goes down.

We will see you at festivals, gigs, tours, in toilets and bars all over this glorious green and blue planet in 2018 and we hope on the memories of all our ancestors and loves that we meet and dance and drink and hold one another in a spirit of brother and sisterhood for the next year and beyond.

The album recording thing is an odd beast. Its obviously the most important thing in the world for us, we're obsessed by it as we should be, good art is only born out of obsession, but we have to consider reality. We need to eat, sleep, take care of our families but all the while in the back of your head is a hamster on a wheel writing (a great circus act right there).

Any "artists" (i'm not keen on that word since X-factor started using it) will know what I'm talking about. That thing that happens when you're engaged. I'm literally not all here, i may look like i'm listening to you but i'm hiving off as much RAM as I can get away with to finish that song. This glassy eyed shell missing your jokes is actually writing a harmony in his brain.

I only mention this not in tribute to our kin as they know us, they know we're not listening, are not offended and leave us alone. In fact they go farther, they make sure no one else bugs us and lets us get on with it then they find us a space to be alone and play.

Albums become obsession. You search for meaning, links, connections. Every lyric has to have meaning, every note and melody has to be the right thing to do. Because we're obsessed? Yes, for sure, but also because we don't get to do this a second time. This is it.

Once upon a few years ago, a publisher asked us to re-mix and re-master our first album, Good Suits & Fightin' Boots, because it was too raw to do anything with. We recorded that record on a Tascam 688 cassette tape machine in the basement of a Masonic lodge in Banbridge, it brought us together as a band and as friends, it was a real experience and set us on the path to become the band we are. We set the tapes on fire to ensure it was never changed. The obsession that recorded that album raised its wounded head at the suggestion and rejected the change. Its a document, that's why its important to get it as right as you can. Was the album so perfect? definately not.

If you've heard it its raw , rough and primal but that was exactly what we wanted. Some of my friends actually hate it as a record, and thats cool, but y'know what, I know fuck all about office admin and you know nothing about what I do. No disrespect intended I just mean to point out once we drop this thing we will literally be telling you all GFY, if you don't like it we don't care and thats the point and its an important one, not meant as a slight to you.

In fact thats the whole fucking point. Do you know what I mean, we have to brazen this out, we have to say fuck all y'all if you don't like it you're wrong. Otherwise the thing would never see the light of day as insecurity and crippling self doubt would never have seen two assholes that don't know nothing say "we're going to form a band that will release albums on Alive Records and be considered and keep the company we now enjoy". Does that make sense?

So here we are, 9 years after our first dig. We think we've recorded our best album. Its the most eclectic for sure, its the most upbeat but has a decent amount of misery in there, to keep the lonely happy, y'know. Its developing our sound without loosing the root of who we are, we haven't gone disco even if we could've, fuck we like to dance.

We have a few more hours to do in the studio then that'll be it away for mixing and mastering, a document, a polaroid. A Dirty Photograph if you will.

Thanks all, we love this life you've given us.

August 2017.

About to go into the studio to record our 4th album.

Hey all, Andy here. I got a minute to myself to get my thoughts down regarding our new recording period. It’s a week our so before we go into the studio to start the alchemic process that is to turn our meat computers ideas into audio waves, to turn thought into a mechanics, to move air in a way that is pleasing. Magic indeed.

We’ve done it 3 times before and we think we’re getting better at it. We’ve had no formal training and have no guiding hand or mentoring to insist we don’t drive the bus off a cliff (but that’s normal with Rock n Roll) and a good thing in my opinion.

The difference this time is we have written this record in less than a year whereas with the others we’ve taken 3 years and never put ourselves under any pressure at all. We would gig and tour, write a tune, noodle about with it, even play it at gigs half finished and figure out what it needs and hey presto, 3 years later you have a song.

So why the change? Well that’s easy, we got a phone call from our label boss Patrick Boissel of Alive Records fame and he said he’d love a new record next year (2017). Although genuinely spooked by the prospect of having to write a record in such a short space of time, for us, we are afraid of nothing and have never said no to anything. Seriously, our stock answer to most requests is “Yes….what is it?. A year for some folks is enough time to release 3 albums, Ty Segal puts albums out daily it seems but that’s not the way we work. I like to put a lot of consideration into lyric and melody, you may not think so but those lyrics have thousands of hours and reams of paper to them. I’m not efficient, obvs,

I also don’t think I’m the greatest songwriter in the world but I hope to be considered one of the good ones before my time is up which I guess is why I have never rushed myself in the past.

So as we are about to hit the studio the obvious question is, are the songs any good? and I have to say that we think they are. We identify as Garage Punk Blues, there is nothing accidental about that self tagging. We did it on purpose as it covers a lot of ground and gives us leeway to write different types of songs from Blues, Rock, Garage, Punk Blues, Folk, Artsy shit, blah blah, you get the point, and we have done that. All our albums have hopefully not been “samey”, whether you dig them or not they don’t plough the same furrow all the way through, and the same can be said of this next record.

We have a few different things going on as well as a few things you would expect us to do.

We suffer from the self doubt of the artist and this next week is the deep breath before the plunge for us I wanted to take a moment to consider in writing the past, let you all know what’s going on and thank you all for the support. We hope you will enjoy our new effort and come and see us play it live.

Please wish us luck as we attempt to make some art for you.

With hearts full of humility….. Thank you

LONDON ALBUM LAUNCH
We're preparing for our upcoming tour of UK and Ireland and are especially excited about our official London album launch in The Shaklewell Arms ont he 20th April. The good folks at Punk Rock Blues say this....

"The Bonnevilles are shaking Northern Ireland in a way it hasn’t felt since Van Morrison & Them obliterated Club Rado in 1964 and Stiff Little Fingers blew apart The Trident in 1977! The Bonnevilles don’t so much play punk blues as use it as a spring board to create a completely new genre. Their new album “Arrow Pierce My Heart” is evidence of a band at the top of their game. The Lurgan duo take Mississippi Hill Blues and Punk Rock and mix into their own unique dark Northern Irish Punk Blues stew"

BILLBOARD CHARTS USA
We're excited to find out that our new album is almost charting in the Billbaord Blues chart. If it makes it it'll be the first time since Alive released the first Black Keys album. Obviously this is very exciting, fingers crossed it makes it as Chris' Ferrari needs new tyres.

If you haven't heard it yet or made the purchase head over to Alive Natural Sound and do the needful.

***The album is available to buy in your local record store.

***Its available online through all the usual outlets (but, if you can, get down to the local store)

***Released date is March 18th

***The label is Alive Naturalsound Records

***UK distibutor is Cargo

***Album cat no. is 0180-2

***Its a worldwide release so you will be able to buy it in your country.

***We can't provide you with splatter vinyl.

***We won't be selling online for a least a couple of months after release. We will be selling ONLY on our upcoming UK tour.

***The vinyl doesn't contain a download code.

One of Europe's top alternative blues acts, sharing the stage with bands such as Left Lane Cruiser, James Leg, Johnny Walker and Guadalupe Plata. This amazing garage punk blues duo straight out of Northern Ireland. has two studio albums already under their belt and has appeared at both The Deep Blues Fest in Clarkesdale Mississippi, and its counterpart in Germany.

" Self-annointed a garage, punk, blues outfit like an arrow piercing my very own heart, lovers of heavy licks and head knockin’ back beats need apply in droves. McGibbon’s song writing is never suspect, influenced from those before yet soaked and steadily glazed in a brine of “cheap beer and buckfast” as well as personal stories, characters, and fore-warnings. Simply a band that needs to be on any rock fans radar regardless of where you stand sub-genre wise, you want to dance and feel like a bad ass at the same time, spin this record on your turntable and turn it up well past your comfort zone. – Scott Zuppardo NO DEPRESSION

Rick Saunders on his Deep Blues blog describes them as "deep dark punk and stylish hard roots music with good pop-sense and without a whiff of retro poly stink”.

Featuring Andrew McGibbon Jr on Vox and guitar, and Chris McMullan on drums.

Last night at 8.05pm we were in a plane and taking off from Zurich in Switerland after playing our last gig of the year in a bar in the Swiss alps, near the Matterhorn (for the record Zurich Airport is fucking comedically expensive), a few hours later we were back in the loving arms of our familes. To say its been our best year yet is an understatement. We've played shows in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, USA and toured the UK twice and we signed a new deal with Alive Natural Sounds.

Every gig is special but playing in Missiissippi was definatly a highlight. We never thought we would every get to play in the states never mind in a place as steeped in musical history as Mississippi. The home of the blues, we were so enamoured with the place we signed our new deal with Alive at the famous Robert Johnson crossraods. We're indebted forever to Chris Johnson for inviting us to play the Deep Blues Festival. Playing in Junior Kimboroughs Juke Joint was a surreal treat and we can go to our graves saying we did that. To be perfectly honest, two white lads from Northern Ireland playing in these places we hope we don't stink the place up too much, we do know the significance of these venues and are genuinely humbled when we heap praise and lush about it.

This year we started with a UK tour then recorded our new album here in Northern Ireland with our friend Mike Mormecha. We've been talking about recording with Mike for a while now, ever since Walter, who recorded Folk Art, closed down his studio to go work for the BBC. We hit the studio hard, recorded the album in a few days and mixed it in another couple. We sent the album out to some labels and hoped we had recorded a good enough record to get some interest. We got a few offers but where delighted to be able to come an agreement with Alive Natural Sounds. We're huge fans of the label and have over the years come to play with some bands on the label and become friends with them.

We played the Deep Blues Fest in Germany in the summer also which was supercool as we got to play with our Spanish pals, Guadalupe Plata and also, James Legand the mighty Johnny Walker of The Soledad Brothers fame. , that was a thrill, Andy got a bit star struck even though Johnny would be the last guy in the world to use that word to refer to himself. In fact we know that Johnny and James Leg put a word in for us with Patrick from Alive, at that show both the guys suggested we should look to Alive for our next release.

Its actually hard to remember all that happened to us this year its been so full and busy. We've got so many people to thank but as we sit in the warm embrace of our loved ones we're making plans for next year and hope to have our album released sometime around mid March , still waiting on the confirmed date. After that we've making plans for tours in UK, Germany, France Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and the USA so as you can see we've got a big year to prepare for.

Please come see us play, we love gigging for you, its what we do and we hope to do even more of it next year.

Happy Christmas amigos from both of us.
Andy & Chris
The Bonnevilles

The Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/39587942015-12-10T17:40:36+00:002015-12-18T22:54:48+00:00End of the set in Belfast on Monday night, last night of the tourThe Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/39587862015-12-10T17:26:02+00:002015-12-10T17:26:02+00:00Muso's Guide Interview The BonnevillesMuso's Guide Interview The BonnevillesThe Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/39587842015-12-10T17:24:56+00:002015-12-10T17:24:56+00:00The Bonnevilles, Franklin Rock 'N' Roll Club, Edinburgh Review<a contents="Read review, click here. Literally blown away by the place, just left it and already planning a trip back next year this time as a tourist but we'll hopefully organise our first proper US tour also.

We played Juniors Juke Joint 2 in Holly Springs on the first night, fresh off the plane in Memphis and a drive to Holly Springs for that and what an honour it was for a couple of lads from Ireland to be invited to do that was immense and we felt priviliged to say the least. By the time we arrived most people where pretty hammered but we played short set and loved it, got to say hello to a few heads we knew and headed to our hotel for a jet laggy sleep. The next night we got to watch the Hootenhallers and our friends Left Lane Crusier at the Juke Joint Chapel at Hobson plantations Juke Joint Chapel, they were typically awesome and one of the best bands on any circuit. Friday saw us watch another musician we're proud to call friend Scott H Birim play a killer early set, that night saw us then play at the same venue with the awesome Henrys Funeral Shoe a duo like us and rocking it. Our gig was an emotional one, we played a song we don't often play out, Just The Right Distance From The Sun, and due to the subject of the song Andy struggled to get through it without crying, tough, but we managed it.

One of the big highlights of our job is meeting new people, new musicians with heir own stories and boy o boy did we meet some characters. Dale Beavers, a musician of talent and stories, we got to hang with him and drink beers and tequila till the wee small hours on the porch of our shack, yes shack. It was a lot of fun and we became buddies with Dale and have promised to stay in touch, we hope to get him across the pond at some point.

PEARLENE
Another guy we got to meet was Rueben Glaser, we met him in Germany during the summer where he played a set at Deep Blues Europe with Johnny Walker of Soledad Brothers fame, it wasn't until we sat down with a beer in Mississippi that we realised he used to play in a band called "Pearlene". We saw them play in Belfast years ago and they were awesome, very fucking cool in fact and one of the bands we can say that played a part in us ending up in a punk blues band. He told us loads of great stories and we let him know how important he was in the history of us, maybe some day a complete stranger will be influenced or inspired to do it by us and we can tell Rueben that the lineage contnues.

We visited Robert Johnsons crossroads in Clarkesdale. Robert is one of our heroes to just be on the same roads he tramped was spine tingling, the thought that he lived on, walked on, played on the same streets was mind blowing.

TUPELO
Next on the list was a trip up to Tupelo to play The Black Sheep Revival. Unless we've visited a place at least once before we are playing to a brand new unknowing audience with maybe a handful of believers, not in fucking Tupelo, these beautiful fuckers have been listening to us for years. When we arrived it became clear early on these guys are fans, know every word of every song and were foaming at the mouth to hear it live. Check out the video and you'll see what we mean. We drank moonshine out the trunk of car in the parking lot of Tupelo bar, its was delicious by the way, not the battery acid we were expecting. These guys and girls were fun, wild, happy and friendly and we really cannot wait to get back to spend more time with them.

TATTOOS & ELVIS
Next up was a trip up to Saltillo to get a couple of tattoos but not before visiting "THE BIRTHPLACE". A dozen people in Tupelo the previous night asked us if we had visited "The Birthplace" yet?, not Elvis' Birthplace just The Birthplace. Elvis means so much to the town that they don;t even need to speak his name. We got up there on the Sunday with David and Brandy Wilson (more about them next) and it was beautiful, the legend is remembered there in bronze and the actual house he lived in as a child was lovingly maintained. We highly recommend a trip out to it if you can, we loved it.

David Wilson and Brandy are the owners of Iron Clad Tattoo in Saltillo, real southerners with the charm and hospitality that goes with the title. David was raised in Greenwood, twenty miles from Clarkesdale and spent his youth tramping around the states before settling in Saltillo with Brandy to raise his family. Saltillo is a sleepy little hamlet just outside Tupelo and not the sort of place you would expect to find a world class facility like The Iron Clad Tattoo but there it is, bold as one of the ships that it get its name from on the high street. It was David and Brandy who brought us to Tupelo and they offered a couple of tattoos to sweeten the deal. Chris being the uncarved block that he is and probably the last untattooed man in Belfast, which is cool too right?so he passed. Janie, Andys better half, and Andy took them up on the offer and got a couple of stunning pieces.

BACK TO CLARKESDALE
Sunday saw us head back to Clarkesdale for the last day of the Deep Blues Fest to catch headliner Tav Falco and Panther Burns and say adieu to all the folks we met. Tav was awesome and it was a privilge to catch the set of an originator and legend.

We got to visit the Blues museum in Clarkesdale, see a dozen bands, met old friends and make new ones all under the Mississippi sun, all of which now seems like a dream. The place names are familar in songs and film and the people are genuinely hospitable and friendly. We loved it.

CHRIS JOHNSON AND DBF
Chris and the Deep blues Fest have played such a huge part in our band over this past year and half since we were first invited to play in Munich last year by Christian Steidhal. We can point to that gig and say things started changing for us, so much so since then we've played in the USA and we've got a new record label to put our new album out (more on that later). This is the last DBF, for now only we hope, and we have to say thank you so much to Chris Johnson and his family for their investment in the DBF over the years, we are genuinely grateful and can never repay them for their invite. We hope we didn't dissappoint. We are all men of the DBF now and will share that forever thanks to them.

So to Christian and Mark, Rick Saunders, Dale, Reuben, David and Brandy WIlson, Seth, Spanky,Tenille and all the guys and gals in Tupelo, Left Lane Crusier, Scott Biram, Henrys Funeral Shoe and all the bands that played, we say adieu. (hope we didn;t forget anyone)

MISSISSIPPI WE LOVE YOU.

The Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/39034592015-10-20T22:09:11+01:002015-10-20T22:09:11+01:00Footage from our show in Tupelo Mississippi Oct 2015The Bonnevillestag:thebonnevilles.co.uk,2005:Post/38845762015-10-06T12:36:56+01:002017-01-12T15:24:22+00:00Mississippi 2015

One of the greatest songs ever recorded, safe journey Jack.

http://millbankstudios.net

The new recording, our 3rd studio album, will feature some of the tracks we road tested on our last UK tour in Feb this year and indeed that we’ve been playing out over the past while and will already been known to some of our fans.

It is amazing to us that it has been almost 3 years since we released “Folk Art & the Death Of Electric Jesus” on TSB Records in November 2012, that’s far too long but it’s how things go when you’re an independent band sometimes but if this new album is as good for us as that one was we’ll be delighted.

We’re hoping to have the album finished quickly and we’re aiming for a late summer release ahead of our trip to Clarkesdale Mississippi to play the Deep Blues Fest 2015 and another UK tour towards the end of the year.

No label is attached to the album yet and we’re still looking for a good one to talk to about this release.
